Various
A range of activities for all who enjoy opera and ballet. Outings include group bookings - for example, in 2025 there will be a summer visit to Grange Park Opera and an autumn visit to Glyndebourne. We also have occasional film evenings that are held in the main hall of the East Horsley Village Hall, which present screenings of operas and ballets from various opera houses and other locations.
Events are open to all U3A members, the details of which will be distributed through the usual e-mail internal notices and bulletins. If you have ideas for other possible outings, or if you have favourite works you would like screened, please let us know.
Fabulous La Traviata at Glyndebourne
In October 2024, the Horsley U3A Opera & Ballet Group took a coach of 55 people to Glyndebourne to see the Autumn season production of Verdi’s La Traviata.
We had a great response to the trip and it was good to see both old and new faces. Afterwards, we had a lot of very positive feedback.
This production used a contemporary staging and was described by The Times as a “classy, subtle affair”. The Guardian gave the production four stars and described it as a “perfectly pitched staging” with outstanding performances from Elisa Verzier (Violetta) and Christian Federici (Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont) underpinned by “excellent” playing from the Glyndebourne Sinfonia and “first rate choral singing”.
This is an annual trip to the Glyndebourne Autumn season and we plan another visit in October 2025. Tickets will be advertised in mid/ late April and are likely to be in high demand. If you are interested in attending and are not already on the group’s email list, please contact us on the email on this page.
